Her head was spinning, and it wasnât just because the blood rushed to her brain. How had she landed on his lap? Yes, she understood the mechanics, but how? She was a professional woman, independent and strong. Why was she draped over his hard-muscled thighs â and something else hard she didnât dare to consider? He couldnât be turned on by her, he didnât even like her!
Her hands crept back to the hem of her dress. Am I really considering baring my backside to him?
It seemed like she didnât only consider it because she was now tugging on her skirt, the evening air caressing the backside of her legs as she revealed more and more skin to him.
Jacob let out a shuddering breath, which had her nipples harden into aching points. A broad hand landed on her back, and she gasped.
âEasy.â He caressed the crease between her bottom and legs, and she tried to thrust back into his touch, but her feet couldnât find purchase on the floor given her lack of height.
âPlease.â She moaned, unsure what she was begging for.
He made a shushing sound. âLower your panties.â
She only stiffened for a moment before she tried to comply. I must have lost my mind. She struggled to get them over her hips and then Jacob helped her pull them free from underneath and she was strangely grateful.
She was breathing hard, almost panting, equal parts embarrassed and confused â and if she were being honest with herself, very aroused.
With the white cotton underwear around her ankles, there wasnât any barrier left between his hand and her skin. When he stroked her backside, she could feel his warmth and the calluses on his hands. He might be a doctor by profession, but this man didnât shy from hard labor either.
A crack reverberated through the space before the pain of the blow registered in her brain. âYou.â Smack! âWill.â Smack! âNot. Use. Foul. Words.â Between every word, a heavy hand landed on her buttocks.
Her backside burned, but he wasnât done. Again, he rained words and drove each of them home with a resounding slap against her ass.
âYou. Will. Not. Disobey. My. Orders.â
On the last word, his hand landed on the crease between leg and cheek. She kicked and let out a cry. Tears stung her eyes, and her throat burned. She refused to let them fall.
He slowly stroked her buttocks, the skin of his hand now cool against her burning flesh.
His hand lifted, and she braced before he peppered her again with short sharp smacks.
âYou. Will. Not. Demean. Yourself.â
She stiffened as the meaning of his last sentence hit home. He hadnât called her names, but she did. A tear escaped, and the dam burst.
Hester didnât know how long she cried. She was vaguely aware when he shuffled her position and lifted her. She sat now on his lap with her face in his neck. He had maneuvered her, so her butt wasnât touching his thighs, and she was thankful for the position. As her sobbing subsided, she became aware of him.
